Reasons for wasting time
What causes us to waste time?
However, there are multiple reasons for not catching up with time.
Laziness
Firstly, we have laziness. In this new era, people don’t have to do much for a living, as they get everything at home. For example, they earn from online jobs, and their needs are fulfilled by home services. Moreover, people spend their time playing video games or scrolling reels, cutting out physical games, even with friends. This leads them to not get out of their comfort zone, and when doing any task, they work slowly or show laziness.
Distraction
Today, social media is a major distraction for us. We spend hours on social media, and even if we try to avoid it, scrolling, over-information, conflicts, and useless notifications engage us so much that we don't realize when the time passes.
Overthinking
It is the worst reason for wasting time. Most people don’t know this contributes to wasting time. Moreover, it leads to taking false decisions and takes dozens of minutes to think about what to do first. It also leads to confusion and disharmony.
Waking up late
Waking up late makes your half-day go to waste. When we wake up late, we have a burden of pending work, and in a short period of time, it is daunting to complete it all. Furthermore, it also contributes to laziness, and your mind might not give 100 percent, which also worsens your health.
Doing multiple tasks at a time
It is exhausting to do 2 to 3 tasks at a time, making you mentally and physically stressed. It not only takes time but also might ruin your work, leading to despair and headaches, which again consume time and effort.
How to improve time management ?
Time management strategy and technique
Time passes in the blink of an eye, but here are some solutions to manage time effectively and avoid procrastination.
Set reminders
Firstly, we have the most effective way — setting reminders, such as with an alarm clock or on your phone. It continuously encourages and helps you complete all tasks on time. It just feels like your mother or teacher encouraging you to do your homework. However, many of us ignore reminders, but below are some suggestions to get this into practice.
Wake up early
Waking up early saves much of our time. We get the whole day to complete tasks, and it is also good for health; it makes us feel refreshed and active. Waking up early does not mean waking up at 4 or 5 AM. Practically, it's very difficult, or the environment in which you live may not allow you to wake up after completing all your sleep. However, just try to wake up as early as you can. The best time to get out of bed is between dawn and morning.
Set deadlines
It is not compulsory to set deadlines only for important tasks. Applying it in daily life can help you complete all tasks on time. It also works like Parkinson’s Law — meaning the more time you allow yourself, the more time the task will take.
For example, we have 2 months to complete vacation homework, so we complete it over the whole vacation. But when we only have 1 week left, we complete it in a week — or even in a day. So the idea is: the more time you allow, the more time it consumes.
Focus on one task at a time
As I mentioned before, doing multiple tasks at a time can lead to stress and consume much of our time. Focusing on one task at a time will help complete it on time and perfectly, with less chance of stress.
Set a time for your favorite activity for motivation
Many times this method works in our life, but we didn’t recognize it.
In simple terms, remember your childhood — when you were told that after completing your homework, you'd be allowed to go outside and play.
We can still use this trick in daily life. You just have to reserve a time slot: complete all your work before that time so you can enjoy your favorite activity (watching a show, going outside, etc.). This keeps you motivated to finish your tasks on time.
Daily Time Management Tips and tricks ; Best practices for manage time effectively
First do easy work, then hard work
Finishing easy tasks first reduces the burden, increases motivation, and gives less stress. So, you can focus on difficult tasks with all your energy. Doing the hard one first can consume effort and time and give stress. Meanwhile, other tasks remain pending, which is exhausting and might not be completed on time. So, doing this trick can be a smart move.
Don’t get lost in thoughts — take action
This is the real reason why many of us can’t manage time properly. We get lost in thoughts, overthinking what we should do or what to do first. This thinking period consumes much of our time and only leaves fog in our minds.
The best solution, especially for those who face this problem, is to take action on anything that comes to your mind first — or plan your tasks the day before. Randomly do any task according to your interest — at least it reduces some burden.
Use a word or quote to motivate yourself
This trick often helps to get out of your comfort zone or overcome excuses. You just have to remember a word, sentence, or quote to push yourself. Additionally, you can also use your dreams or goals to encourage yourself and work consistently.
For example, I use a quote to motivate myself:
“There is no investment bigger than time — it doesn’t matter what the occupation is.”

Stay calm and don’t watch the time again and again
It seems like a ridiculous suggestion, but believe me — this habit ruins your work. Watching time flowing can make you worry. As a result, you get obsessed and work fast and in a hurry. This can mess up your work and your mind.
The best solution is just to give your best, focus on your work, and avoid distractions.
Stay active and discipline
Do exercise or play any physical sport to stay active because laziness kills time, body, and ambitions. Along with this, be disciplined in your work consistently. Motivation can be short-term, but discipline is the key to perfection and success.
There is no investment greater than time, and those who succeed in managing often succeed in every part of life. You can't achieve this skill overnight as it requires consistency, focus, and dedication. Start taking control of your time today.
